Wake up, Mr. west! kanye west’s catalog as a framework for engaging in student affairs work more authentically

National Association for Student Personnel Administrators Annual Conference

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | March 7, 2018

At NASPA 2018 I facilitated a workshop on the importance of Black student affairs professionals finding ways to be authentic in their roles, particularly as it related to serving Black and African American Students. Through Kanye West’s early discography, we explored academic, personal, and professional priorities; balancing the needs of the students with the needs of the professional. Because students deserve authentic educators, and educators deserve to be able to be authentic in the first place.
